My three-week trip to China was neither a personal photographic project nor an assignment (though several of the photographs were eventually published by FAZ Magazin). I was simply curious to know a country that I hadn't had a chance to visit before, and I became so interested in it, that in the following years I tried (though rather ineffectively) to become acquainted with the Chinese script.
