Introduction |
| One "side path" to CHIMERAE is this small series of illustrations to Ovid's "Metamorphoses", a famous masterpiece of Latin literature (and one the loveliest works of poetry ever), relating the Greek myths that involve some kind of transformation. As I didn't have the time and the means to illustrate them all, I selected eleven episodes concerning the love affairs of beautiful goddesses and nymphs. One reason for my choice was that Ovid is at his best when writing about sensual love. The other was that I wanted to photograph Hélène Busnel, a young French dancer who not only has a beautiful body, but also knows how to use it as an instrument for expression. These images couldn't have been done without her sensitive and intelligent cooperation. | ||
